Observing Miko

Every year, parents of Montessori schools are encouraged to observe their child during class hours. It’s mandatory for new students, and optional for old students. I have already observed Luigi in Centro last year. This morning, I observed Miko, from 8-9am.

He worked on dynamic addition of thousands. He knows how the materials are supposed to be used, but he was quite careless with his figures. Para bang wala sa loob, tatapusin lang. He had to redo his work. He forgot to exchange 10 units to 1 ten (carry one kumbaga). But he finished it rin naman. Then he worked with Carlos, his friend, on the rotation of the earth. Dito, naging animated na siya. Madaldal silang dalawa, and lumabas na yung pagkagalawgaw ni Miko.

I looked in on Luigi also. They were having a group work, working with clay. They’re making a plant factory, i.e. what’s inside the plants that help them produce their food.

Ngayon ko lang nakita si Miko working in school. Si Luigi even during preschool days, na-observe ko na. It’s refreshing to see him working by himself, and trying to focus on what he’s supposed to do. But I think I’ll help him along. I’ll make the materials they’re using at home, so he can practice. Mukhang hindi iniinda ang math e.

Tito Ric, Tita Celeste, pano ba yan?
